Natural Deodorant Vs Antiperspirants

Natural Deodorant Vs Antiperspirants

Want to know the difference between natural deodorant vs antiperspirants? What’s all the hype about Natural Deodorants these days? We’ve all been using our favorite brands and scents for years.  With the new awareness of the chemicals that are in our antiperspirants, there is cause for concern.  Here is some helpful info about the difference and how to detox from your current brand.

Antiperspirants rely on aluminum to work; the active ingredient in antiperspirants is aluminum, which plugs up sweat glands to stop perspiration.  While there are reports out that claim aluminum is a factor in breast cancer studies. There is not a direct link. Many popular antiperspirants also contain parabens, while all parabens are not bad for you, many typically found in antiperspirants are a little more worrisome. Let’s go into more information about natural deodorant vs antiperspirant.

Parabens are typically used as a preservative and inherently synthetic. They are sometimes made to mimic estrogen which can disrupt the natural balance of the body’s endocrine system.  Another problematic yet common ingredient in antiperspirants is a synthetic fragrance which is often formulated with hundreds of unregulated and undisclosed ingredients. Yikes!

Natural Deodorant Vs Antiperspirants

Natural deodorant vs antiperspirants

Unlike Antiperspirants, natural deodorants do not contain any synthetic or potentially toxic ingredients.  This is a big plus for people who are mindful of what they are putting into and using on their bodies.  Our bodies are covered in two kinds of sweat glands. Only the ones in our armpits, groin, and feet produce the kind of sweat that will stink.

Sweat secrets from these glands called Apocrine Sweat Glands. They are odorless but contain fatty acids and proteins that interact with the bacteria on your skin. They also in turn releasing odor.  The sweat that comes from the Eccrine sweat glands all over the body doesn’t have the same chemical makeup as the apocrine sweat. That is why your armpits smell. Natural deodorant vs antiperspirants

Antiperspirants get their name because they completely prevent perspiration by artificially clogging sweat glands.  Deodorants keep sweat glands open and fresh but halt the bad odor at the door by attaching the bacteria on your skin.  So, the sweat continues to be odorless.

This is why there is a detox time period from the time you discontinue using your antiperspirant and begin using a natural deodorant.  It is common for you to feel you smell worse when switching to a natural deodorant.  Your sweat glands will finally unclog and release why it was helping inside.  Give yourself and a natural deodorant at least a month before giving up on it.  Also, remember your diet as a lot to do with body odor.  A vegetarian, whole food diet will produce less odor than a diet that consists of processed foods and meats.
